Eero Koivisto : Architecture & Furniture

What kind of person born in a family with both doctor parents, dreams to be a fighter pilot, but ends up a modernist designer?

The answer is : Eero Koivisto !

He was born in 1958 in karlstad, sweden. While his dad wanted to be an architect, he personally preferred the occupation of a pilot. However, the idea of being an architect later on foreshadowed his career......Influenced by the experience of amusing himself with lego toy building blocks, his enlightenment to architecture popped out all at once. Now, he has gained fame gradully and has multiple titles such as the artistic leader of university college of arts in Stockholme and one of the interiors/architecture designing trio in "* claesson koivisto rune ",and also a full-time lecturer for many more schools of economic/arts and crafts.

(* claesson koivisto rune: a technical designing partnership with three designers: Marten Claesson、Eero Koivisto、and Ola Rune)

*Well then, it's time for us to take a look at his works!
First of all--the architectural part.
Currently working on numorous projects and possibly many more to come, his team and he
has finished some of the follows:

*WABI : A relaxation vacation house located in Stockholme, Sweden, built in 1994. As you see,the following picture shows you the interior of WABI and without words or languages, Eero Koivisto clearly depicted his points of view toward designing---to create something pratical, creative and furthermore, poetic! The main color he has always been fascinated with would be white, which is light, pleasant to the eye, and low-key. In his eye, beauty is nourished by the consideration of practicality/usefulness/effectiveness, and that's exactly what Scandinavian style provides--a considerate style which caters to human and cares about their needs.

Jeremy Cole: Lighting

Whenever people speak of Jeremy Cole, they think of his amazing Tequilla Lighting Series also known as the "Aloe Blossom". He seemd to enjoy making things out of pottery and porcelain.
To trace back to his early life, we can actually find some facts to our surprise that Jeremy Cole has already been influenced profoundly at the age of four by his own mother, an interior designer herself. Later on, Cole initiated his self-taught life in designing, which turned out to be a correct choice---he began to sparkle in this field. You can observe from his creations a strong connection to nature due to his childhood period staying in New Zealand.

*You can easily sense his admiration for nature by his way of composing lighting ornaments in a
form/shape of flowers or vegetables. For instance, he came up with this suspension lamps with overlapping leaf-like layers inspired by the native unique cactus plants in N/Z.
This collection is called "Aloe Blossom" ,bought out along with the other choice "Aloe Noir"(picture of below).
(*Noir means black in French, therefore this collection is composed of black suspension lamps. )

Marcel Wanders : Furniture

Marcel Wanders, a striking Dutch designer who always came up with strange creations such as
nest chairs, egg-shaped vases, or even lamps you can actually blow off just as you do to your candles!!
Wanders was born in Boxtel, the Netherlands in 1963. He has worked for the celebrated Droog Design ( *1) and has established his personal workshop by the year of 1995.
To get to know this guy, you can start with some little stuff you might need to better your house's appearance with these:

*Already starting to wonder what's this colorful oval thing function as, huh?
It's not the one your kids usually spent hours to finish colouring in order to win the competition
on the Easter Day... It's a coffee table!! The table is covered with Bisazza glass mosaic, presented in a way that may well be attractive to both the toddlers and their parents ....

*Ever seen such a delicately arranged pattern in a piece of wallpaper? Here you are, wandering into Wanders' world---a fantastic black-and-white world in which you behold no colours but had a strongly colorful impression on it! This collection is called "the Hexagon Wallpaper" which might reminds you of memory in childhood when you were reading an encyclopedia about the patterns of DNA ... and yet, not as graceful nor breathtaking as this one....

*Yes, you're now looking at Marcel Wanders most popular collections---the Eggvase!!
Certainly it's humorous and playful enough to make a vase into such a confusing shape and even come up with three different materials...
but let's not forget the fact that those eggvases have been recognized as one of the biggest projects for Droog Design!

*Allow me to introduce you----the "moooi boutique"series!! To trace back to the naming, Wanders simply provided us with one explanation: The phrase "mooi" is a Dutch word, meaning "beauty". The reason why he added an extra alphabet "o" in between accounts for Wanders' expectations and wishes to see this series turn out "extra beautiful".
---To Be Continued---

*1: Droog Design: a famous organization established by Gijs Bakker and Renny Ramakers. The two founders cooperate with designers worldwide. Droog in Dutch means "dry", expressing their cconcepts of designing which is simple, original and not over-decorated.
