Fernando and Humberto Campana : Furniture

The Campana brothers partake a lot of portion of reputation among designers in South America. Born in , Brazil, they weren't innate designers. As a matter of fact, the senior Campana, namely, Humberto, was originally a lawyer while the junior was an architect. They both took classes of industrial design in Brazil Sculpture Museum, and later on tried their hands on designing affair.

The Campana brothers excel in using rare materials, finished products, and industrial trash to reform/reshape new arts. They do this out of a belief that by recycling these wastes/garbages and transform them into crafts will bring opportunities/redemption for the lower class in society. Their main prupose is to seek Brazilian style of designing, doing their best to get rid of modernism/rationalism which has long been influnced by European way of thinking.

Karim Rashid: Industrial Design

What makes you think of a typical image for a designer?

A man who wears nothing but pink or white outfits? A homeboy who loves design but loves his wife even more? A guy that used to be confused about his future despite the fact that he was already 33 then? Or.....A hippy with tattooes all over his body?

All the above equals to Karim Rashid.

With tender and smooth lifestyle, Karim Rashid successfully reflects the essence of underground culture and trends of virtual world. With an experience as a DJ, he utilizes numerous types of materials to create, such as plastic, chemical foam, artificial fiber and so on, which gives out an extension of designing and has brought him some benefits like producing for Idee Department Store in Tokyo branch , Nambe, and *Umbra. The collection he designed or Umbra, using abandoned baskets, has been the most representative industrial design products among its counterparts. The collection has also played a role as Rashid's muse to think up the wordly famous series "On Chair".

Here, feel free to click on his official website, and turn on the loudspeaker to enjoy the little surprising gadget on it! : http://www.karimrashid.com/

Currently,he is leading an avant-garde trends in the field of products, fashion, industrial design, interior, lighting and so on. The most noticeable feature of his creation is that he emphasizes much on the practicality as well as on the aesthetics. In Rashid's perspective, desiging business should be something that can be widely applied to daily life and suggest the personal tastes of the owner at the same time. owing to this reason, not only does Rashid produces delicate/exquisite artistic stuff, but he also invests in mass production for the public. Furthermore, he often touched ecological/global/political issues when designing. Just like he said in his own website: "Design is about the betterment of our lives poetically, aesthetically, experientially, sensorially, and emotionally."

Here, let's take a close look at his work as one of his identities--a DJ!
